In these weekly updates, I’ve examined how surveillance tech has been used to respond to the coronavirus worldwide; from the use of drones in North Africa to health code apps in Asia. But one region this newsletter is yet to discuss is sub-Saharan Africa. The virus rate there has lagged behind other regions, and so has the tech. But as countries like Botswana and Nigeria are demonstrating, that is changing.
